About
Turnout & Hip Health is a dance medicine–informed course designed to help ballet dancers develop a functional, sustainable turnout while protecting long-term hip, knee, and foot health. The course begins with an educational foundation that breaks down what turnout truly is, where it originates, and why forcing turnout leads to common injuries. You’ll gain a clearer understanding of your individual anatomy, hip structure, and movement patterns so you can work with your body rather than against it. Emphasis is placed on femoral rotation within the hip socket, pelvic organization, and recognizing compensation patterns before they become habitual. The 6 week exercise training portion progresses into targeted, weight-bearing turnout routines that teach your body how to apply turnout where it matters most — in standing, plié, balance, and single-leg work. These routines focus on deep hip external rotator control, alignment, and even foot pressure, without gripping the glutes, forcing the knees, or rolling the feet. Rather than chasing the idealized "flat" turnout, this course prioritizes control, endurance, and consistency. You’ll learn how to maintain turnout through movement and fatigue while staying within a safe range for your hips, helping reduce strain on the knees and feet. Turnout & Hip Health is ideal for dancers who want to improve turnout without pain, understand the “why” behind their training, and build a turnout that actually transfers into ballet class — supporting both technique and longevity.
